Should you hire a real estate agent to sell your home? I would say yes, and there are a number of reasons why.

Why should you hire a real estate agent to sell your home?

There are many reasons why you should hire an agent, and I’ll highlight a few important ones today.

First of all, there’s the sales price. According to a 2016 study by the National Association of Realtors, sellers who used an agent to sell their home got an average of $60,000 more in the final sales price than For Sale By Owner properties.

An agent can also help you with marketing. Agents have access to hundreds of websites through their MLS and their company. We will put your home on the major search portals that buyers look at these days, such as Zillow, Trulia, Realtor.com, and Redfin, to name a few.

A good agent uses social media to market your home. I advertise listings on my Facebook business page, which has thousands of likes, and my personal Facebook page. Many of the friends on my personal page are also real estate agents who will see your listing. We also post to Twitter and LinkedIn to make sure that people are seeing your home. After all, these days showings start online.


If you hire an agent, you are more likely to get a higher sales price.


 

A real estate agent will also utilize staging and professional photography to market your home. Staging can even help add value to your home. We’ll provide cost-effective tips to help make your home stand out and show better in order to get top dollar.

As you might have guessed, there is a lot of paperwork involved in selling a home. An agent like myself will know how to handle contracts and disclosures. We can also recommend a good title company to make sure that the title and escrow are handled properly so that nothing comes back later to haunt you during the sale.

Finally, real estate agents provide errors and omission insurance, which protects you after the transaction in case the buyer sues. No one wants that to happen but sometimes it does, so E and O insurance will help you with legal costs.
